Wavesense Jazz Meter Review

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

wavesense jazzI recently received in the mail the newest blood glucose meter from AgaMatrix. The Jazz. I have been very pleased with a previous meter I received from AgaMatrix, the Presto, as AgaMatrix had significantly higher accuracy glucose sensing. I always found my Presto to be within 2 points of my laboratory results. So receiving this new meter was exciting! Not only would it have the same features as the Presto: No coding, fast, accurate results, but it would also have automatic meal tagging.

The Jazz is the SMALLEST meter I have ever seen! The features are a small upgrade over the Presto, but it comes in an even smaller package!

I didn’t receive the Bluetooth model, but with the new upgrades that are happening with the iPhone, I’m sure that they will create an application that will work with it as soon as the iPhone has upgraded to version 3.0. I was able to use the USB interface easily and the Jazz worked seamlessly with my USB port on my computer.

The Zero-Click Software was quick and the reports were easy to read. I really liked that when I went to print the reports, they were automatically saved in .pdf format, and that I could email right out of the software instead of saving to my computer and then having to email them to my care provider. Also, the ability to add comments, such as: was sick, or birthday celebration, or the one that I use the most often when you see multiple numbers entered at the same time something on my finger were clear and concise.
The lancing device was small and similar to the One Touch mini’s, but I’m very happy with my AccuChek Multi-clix and haven’t been swayed yet! Although the bag itself was quite small, and I could see using the lancing device in the case as a portable unit that goes with me in my purse. Overall the size of the entire case was as big as my iPhone! I can carry a smaller purse without overloading it for my meter!

One of the items that I was disinhearted with was the fact that AgaMatrix test strips were not compatible over all of their meters. If you buy the Presto, you use Presto strips. If you buy the Jazz, you use Jazz strips. The ability to not have to use proprietary strips would be beneficial to all users.

I’d choose accuracy over any of the features, so even if I have to log things by hand, the AgaMatrix Jazz was very accurate. I will use it to verify whenever I have a very high or very low number to make sure that I am taking care of myself in the best manner possible. I wish that my insurance carrier would cover the strips. The AgaMatrix line of products are now becoming more available, I happened to see strips available at my local grocery store the other day, and hope that I won’t have to pay grocery store prices to be able to get strips.
